After spearheading the $665 million sale of Silo AI to AMD, entrepreneur Peter Sarlin is shifting his focus toward the next major frontier in computation. His latest venture, QuTwo, is positioning itself as an essential “AI lab for the quantum era,” designed to help enterprises navigate the transition from classical to quantum-enhanced processing.
Solving the AI Efficiency Crisis
Modern AI is rapidly hitting an efficiency wall, where the energy demands and computational costs of traditional hardware are becoming unsustainable. Sarlin, through his family office PostScriptum, believes quantum computing is the ultimate solution. However, rather than waiting for perfectly stable quantum hardware to arrive, QuTwo is building the infrastructure to use what is available today.
The QuTwo OS Orchestration Layer
The startup’s flagship product is QuTwo OS, an orchestration layer that allows businesses to run workloads across a hybrid environment. Key features include:
- Hybrid Routing: Seamlessly shifting tasks between classical and quantum processors.
- Quantum-Inspired Computing: Using classical hardware to simulate quantum behavior, offering immediate performance gains.
- Hardware Agnostic: Supporting a wide variety of algorithms and emerging chip architectures.
Real-World Enterprise Integration
QuTwo is already moving beyond theoretical research into commercial application through high-value “design partnerships.”
In the retail sector, they are collaborating with Zalando to develop “lifestyle agents”—proactive AI tools that move beyond basic search functions to suggest products and experiences. In the financial sector, QuTwo has launched a research initiative with OP Pohjola to explore how quantum AI can transform financial services.
A Powerhouse Leadership Team
The company draws from deep expertise across both the semiconductor and quantum industries. The team includes:
- Kuan Yen Tan: Co-founder of quantum leader IQM.
- Antti Vasara: Board member at IQM and chair of SemiQon.
- Pekka Lundmark: Former CEO of Nokia, who joins the board to provide enterprise scale.
By blending the talents of over 30 AI and quantum scientists, QuTwo aims to ensure that when the “quantum advantage” finally arrives, the world’s largest enterprises are already running on the right operating system.
