Google is fundamentally changing how we interact with the world around us by bringing its conversational AI tool, Search Live, to a global audience. Previously restricted to the United States and India following its initial launch in July 2025, the feature is now rolling out to more than 200 countries and territories, appearing wherever Google’s AI Mode is supported.
A Smarter Way to See and Ask
Search Live moves beyond the traditional search box to offer a truly multimodal experience. By tapping the “Live” icon within the Google app on Android or iOS, users can point their cameras at objects and engage in a fluid, back-and-forth audio dialogue.
The tool is specifically designed for “hands-busy” moments—such as troubleshooting the assembly of a new shelving unit—where typing a query is impractical. Because the AI “sees” what the camera sees, it provides contextually aware suggestions and relevant web links in real time.
Powered by Gemini 3.1 Flash Live
This massive expansion is fueled by Google’s latest audio and voice model, Gemini 3.1 Flash Live. This technology focuses on making interactions feel natural and intuitive, allowing for follow-up questions that feel like a real conversation. Users can also trigger this functionality directly through Google Lens by selecting the “Live” option at the bottom of the screen.
Enhancing Global Communication
Alongside the search update, Google is broadening its translation ecosystem. The Live Translate feature, which provides real-time audio translation through headphones, is officially expanding to iOS devices.
This rollout includes several new regions, such as the United Kingdom, Japan, France, Germany, Nigeria, and Thailand. With support for over 70 languages, the update ensures that both Android and iOS users can access seamless, real-time translations across any pair of headphones.
