Voice AI powerhouse ElevenLabs is officially moving beyond speech. With the launch of ElevenMusic on iOS, the company is positioning itself as a direct competitor to established AI music platforms like Suno and Udio. This move signals a strategic shift for the startup, which was recently valued at $11 billion following a massive $500 million Series C funding round.
A Complete Studio in Your Pocket
ElevenMusic allows users to transform natural language prompts into fully realized songs. The app isn’t just a generation tool; it’s a discovery platform featuring:
- Customizable Creation: Users can dictate song length, toggle lyrics on or off, and select specific genres or writing styles.
- Remix Culture: Fans can take tracks created by others and put their own spin on them using text-based instructions.
- Curated Discovery: Much like traditional streaming services, the app offers live stations, trending charts, and mood-based mixes including “Focus,” “Cosmic,” and “Chill.”
Pricing and Accessibility
The app follows a freemium model. Casual users can generate up to seven songs per day at no cost. For power users, a Pro tier is available for $9.99 per month (or $95.90 annually), granting 500 tracks per month, 500 GB of storage, and unrestricted access to all musical styles and moods.
Diversifying the AI Portfolio
This expansion is part of a broader effort to insulate ElevenLabs against the eventual commoditization of basic voice models. By building a comprehensive creative suite—which already includes the ElevenReader mobile app and tools for video, translation, and sound effects—the company is becoming a one-stop shop for AI-driven media.
Following the release of a “commercially safe” music model last year and collaborations with top producers, ElevenLabs is now looking to scale its music vertical. The company is actively hiring for consumer marketing roles and may soon introduce royalty incentives for creators, mirroring the revenue-sharing model it already offers authors on its reading platform.
