Are you trying to leave billionaire-owned social media but are unsure of where to begin? Today is the introduction of a new software called Indigo, which will allow users to browse the open social web across several sites under one roof. As more people discover they want control over their feeds, algorithms, moderating options, and other aspects of engaging in online communities, decentralized social media is becoming popular. There are, however, other options. Users can choose to join the more recent social network Bluesky, which is based on the AT Protocol, or the decentralized servers that comprise the social network Mastodon, which is based on the older ActivityPub protocol (now utilized by Meta’s Threads).
