Netflix is asking for a larger share of your monthly budget. The streaming leader has officially raised its subscription prices across its entire lineup, confirming the changes to TechCrunch as part of an effort to reflect service improvements and a growing content library.
The New Cost of Streaming
The price adjustments affect every tier of the service, from the entry-level ad-supported plan to the high-end 4K experience.
- Standard with Ads: Now $8.99 per month (up from $7.99).
- Standard (Ad-Free): Now $19.99 per month (up from $17.99).
- Premium: Now $26.99 per month (up from $24.99).
Sharing your account with users outside your household has also seen a price shift. Adding an extra viewer to an ad-free plan now costs $9.99 monthly, an increase from the previous $8.99. For those on the ad-supported tier, the fee to add an additional user is now $6.99.
Rollout and Justification
For new members signing up today, these prices take effect immediately. Existing subscribers will see the updated rates roll out over the coming months and will receive an email notification at least 30 days before the new price is applied to their account.
Netflix justifies these hikes by pointing to recent platform enhancements. Since its last price increase in January 2025, the company has introduced video podcasts and expanded its livestreaming content. Looking ahead, the company plans to revamp its mobile app and further develop its short-form video features.
These financial shifts follow a major strategic pivot. Netflix recently walked away from a potential merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. After refusing to counter a “superior proposal” from Paramount Skydance, Netflix opted not to increase its $82.7 billion all-cash bid, choosing instead to focus on its internal growth.
