Sierra, the enterprise AI startup co-founded by tech veterans Bret Taylor and Clay Bavor, is accelerating its expansion through the acquisition of Fragment, a Y Combinator-backed startup based in France. This move marks Sierra’s third acquisition in quick succession, signaling an aggressive growth strategy for the $10 billion company.
Strengthening AI Workflows and European Presence
Fragment specializes in helping businesses integrate artificial intelligence directly into their operational workflows. As part of the deal, Fragment co-founders Olivier Moindrot and Guillaume Genthial will join the Sierra team.
In a joint statement, Taylor and Bavor emphasized that the duo will be instrumental in driving Sierra’s “agent development efforts in France.” While the financial terms of the acquisition remain undisclosed, estimates from PitchBook suggest Fragment had previously raised approximately $2 million in seed funding.
A Rapid Acquisition Spree
Sierra is moving fast to consolidate its lead in the autonomous customer service agent market. This latest deal follows two other major acquisitions finalized in late March:
- Opera Tech: A Japan-based firm focused on enterprise AI solutions.
- Receptive AI: A specialist in voice-based AI agents.
By absorbing these specialized teams, Sierra is rapidly diversifying its technical capabilities and geographic reach.
The Power Behind Sierra
The startup’s meteoric rise is fueled by the pedigree of its founders. Bret Taylor, who serves as the chairman of the board at OpenAI and was formerly the co-CEO of Salesforce, launched Sierra alongside Clay Bavor, a former high-ranking executive at Google.
The company has already secured a massive $630 million in funding from premier venture capital firms like Sequoia Capital and Benchmark. With a blue-chip customer base that includes Casper, Clear, and Brex, Sierra is positioning itself as the primary infrastructure for the next generation of AI-driven customer interaction.
